چکیده

We consider the design of a multicommodity flow network, in which point-topoint demands are routed across the network subject to link capacity restrictions. Such a design must build enough capacity and diverse routing paths through the network to ensure that feasible multicommodity flows continue to exist, even when components of the network fail. In this paper, we examine several methodologies to optimally design a minimum cost survivable network that continues to support a multicommodity flow under any of a given set of failure scenarios, where each failure scenario consists of the simultaneous failure of multiple arcs. We begin by providing a single extensive form mixed-integer programming formulation for this problem, along with a Benders decomposition algorithm as an alternative to the extensive form approach. We next investigate strategies to improve the performance of the algorithm by augmenting the master problem with several valid inequalities such as cover constraints, connectivity constraints and path constraints. For the smallest instances (8 nodes, 10 origin-destination pairs, and 10 failure scenarios), the Benders implementation consumes only 10% of the time required by the mixedinteger programming formulation, and our best augmentation strategy reduces the solution time by another 50%. For mediumand large-sized instances, the extensive form problem fails to terminate within two hours on any instance, while our decomposition algorithms provide optimal solutions on all but two problem instances.

A Fast Strategy to Find Solution for Survivable Multicommodity ‎Network‎

This paper proposes an immediately efficient method, based on Benders Decomposition (BD), for solving the survivable capacitated network design problem. This problem involves selecting a set of arcs for building a survivable network at a minimum cost and within a satisfied flow. The system is subject to failure and capacity restriction. To solve this problem, the BD was initially proposed with ...

The Multilayer Capacitated Survivable IP Network Design Problem : valid inequalities and Branch-and-Cut

Telecommunication networks can be seen as the stacking of several layers like, for instance, IPover-Optical networks. This infrastructure has to be sufficiently survivable to restore the traffic in the event of a failure. Moreover, it should have adequate capacities so that the demands can be routed between the origin-destinations. In this paper we consider the Multilayer Capacitated Survivable...

Connectivity Upgrade Models for Survivable Network Design

Infrastructure networks to transport material, energy, and information are critical for today’s interconnected economies and communities, and network disruptions and failures can have serious economic and even catastrophic consequences. Since these networks require enormous investments, network service providers emphasize both survivability and cost-effectiveness in their network design decisio...

Maximizing residual capacity in connection-oriented networks

The following problem arises in the study of survivable connection-oriented networks. Given a demandmatrix to be routed between nodes, we want to route all demands, so that the residual capacity given by the difference between link capacity and link flow is maximized. Each demand can use only one path. Therefore, the flow is modeled as nonbifurcated multicommodity flow. We call the considered p...

An Approach to Solving the Survivable Capacitated Network Design Problem

Survivability refers to keeping a system partially or fully operational when one or more of its components fail. Survivability in telecommunication networks is crucial, as failure of a network component can potentially bring down the whole communication network, as happened in some real-world cases. Adding redundant network components increases the survivability of a network, but cost of the ne...
